The Cooke S4 primes are the first generation of modern Cooke primes. Originally released in the late 1990's, they have become a favorite of many cinematographers. The S4 lenses are sharp with a gentle focus falloff towards the edges of the frame, warm, and with aesthetic bokeh that create the "Cooke Look" that the company is known for. We have S4 lenses with Cooke /i Technology with the exception of the 32mm and 135mm.

We also rent uncoated versions of the S4's which have lower contrast, greater flares, and other vintage characteristics. This look is achieved by swapping out the front element of each lens from the standard coated version to the uncoated version. The S4's come with the standard front elements by default. If you are interested in the uncoated versions, please let us know when placing your rental.
